Joseph Fulkekrson, a farmer of Washington township, this county, was arraigned in circuit court today before Judge Wilson and a special venire on the charge of murder in the first degree. With a shotgun Fulkerson killed Gorman Lentz, one of his neighbors, who was standing at the front door of the Fulkerson home remonstrating with Mrs. Fulkerson for talking loudly at night. The murder was the outgrowth of a bad feeling between the Fulkerson and Lentz families, and Fulkerson will plead self defense. |

| 24 Oct 1907 Courtroom Crowded Bloomington. Ind., Oct 24 -- An effort is being made by the defense in the trial of Joseph Fulkerson for the murder of Gorman Lentz, to throw the case out of court on the testimony of the prosecution. The testimony went to show that the Lentz brothers agreed to go to Fulkerson's home to discipline him because he had accused a daughter of the other family of stealing chickens. The widow of Gorman Lentz was a witness. The courtroom continues crowded with interested spectators, and the remainder of the week will likely be taken up by the trial. |

| 28 Oct 1907 FULKERSON NOT GUILTY ________ Man Who Killed Regulator Acquitted by Jury Bloomington. Ind., Oct. 28 -- The jury in the case of the State of Indiana against Joseph Fulkerson for the murder of Gorman Lentz returned a verdict of acquittal. Fulkerson, who is an old man, wept for joy when he heard the verdict and shook hands with each of the jurors. The case occupied all the time of the circuit court last week. Fulkerson and Lentz were neighbor farmers, and Fulkerson shot Lentz because the latter had gone to the Fulkerson home to "regulate'" the family. Fulkerson said the shooting was in self-defense |
