| Fred Fulkerson was born August 26 1872 in Indiana. He died August 28, 1960 in Detroit Michigan and is buried in Grandlawn Cemetery in Redford Township. Mitilda Ann (Anna) Ellis was born in Febuary of 1875 in Indiana. She died July 27, 1949 in Detroit Michigan. She is buried in Grandlawn Cemetery in Redford Township. Fred and Anna were married November 9, 1895 in Goldsmith Indiana. They moved to Michigan sometime after 1912 when Freds mother Mary died. Prior to that the U.S Census List's Fred as a Farmer. In Detroit he started the Fulkerson Fuel and Oil Company With his sons Hurl and John around 1920 to 1922. Harry moved up to Detroit for awhile to work with them and as the younger brothers grew they also got involved with the company. There was a bit of drama and friction as some of the sons manuvered themselves into various positions within the company and a couple of the wives competed socially as well. Harry wouldn't work anywhere but the office as he felt the labor was beneith him and his wife along with Freds wife Hazel spent their time buying the latest fashions, golfing and socializing in the upper society. Harry eventually left the company and Hurl became a Detroit Police officer a couple years after the company started leaving the other brothers, John, Waldo and Fred, to work with their father and take over the operation of the company. Dispite these early issues the brothers and sisters all became quite close in later years except for Grace and Harry who were seldom around. Fred and Ann also had a son named Raymond who died of Diptheria at age 12 |
